Description

The HighScope curriculum is uniquely designed to provide a rich academic foundation while promoting independence, decision-making, cooperation, creativity, and problem-solving in young children. The curriculum includes learning objectives, effective adult-child interaction strategies, resources to support teachers with setting up the learning environment and individualizing their lesson plans, and assessment measures that help programs ensure a high-quality experience for all learners.

 

This 5-day series is intended to provide an introductory overview to the curriculum. Each day will cover the following topics:

 

  • Day 1: Introduction to Active Learning & the HighScope Approach
  • Day 2: Thinking, Reasoning, & Key Developmental Indicators (KDIs)
  • Day 3: The Learning Environment & Materials (interest areas)
  • Day 4: Adult-Child Interaction, Scaffolding & Language
  • Day 5: The Daily Routine (Plan-Do-Review) & Lesson Planning
