Assessment is a vital piece of effective and responsive teaching. During this hands-on 6-hour session, participants will examine the importance of ongoing formative assessment and reflect on their current teaching and assessment practices. Participants will practice using a variety of tools to gather authentic information in both English and Spanish about children's knowledge, skills, and abilities. By leveraging the progressions of development and learning, participants will strengthen their ability to make accurate assessment decisions. Participants will also explore digital tools used to bolster family partnerships and engage in two-way communication in both English and in Spanish.
Please note: This session will not focus on all of the tools for planning, reporting, and communicating within SmartTeach™. Additionally, this training is supplemental and will not meet SPP contract requirements for Introduction to Teaching Strategies GOLD.

In this hands-on lab session, teachers will learn the basic skills they need to begin implementing GOLD® in their classrooms. They will examine the progressions of development and learning and the assessment process, practice evaluating a child’s portfolio, create useful assessment information by linking curricular objectives to documentation, and develop conference forms to communicate with families.
